* Registration Fee is non-refundable in the event of unsuccessful cord blood collection. Processing and storage fees will not be charged in this case.
** Storage Fee for Annual Plans is subject to change, and reflects the cost of liquid nitrogen and other costs at the corresponding time. Note that large increases in annual storage fees are not expected, and that annual storage fees have remained steady for the past 5 years.
*** 18 Year Plans: Storage fees for 18 year plans are guaranteed within the 18 years of the agreement; continued storage may be at the future rate (see Future Storage Rates note above). If the umbilical cord blood is required before an 18 year storage plan has expired, a pro-rated amount of the pre-paid storage fee will be credited to the client.

Cord tissue price plans

In addition to cord blood banking, it is possible to bank the umbilical cord itself. Unlike cord blood banking (above), which is clinically proven, umbilical cord tissue (UCT) banking is experimental, meaning that- unlike cord blood banking- no generally accepted method of processing exists for UCT banking, and there is no guarantee that the UCT product will be clinically useful in the future.

Despite the experimental nature of UCT storage, there is widespread interest in this technology due to the presence of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in the tissue. MSCs are also present in cord blood, so UCT should be considered an additional source of this resource. MSCs are precursors for bone, muscle, and cartilage, and the hope is that they may eventually be employed to treat conditions such as arthritis and sports injuries.

As an experimental service, every laboratory processes UCT differently. Some facilities store cells from only a portion of the cord and some store from the entire cord. Some facilities freeze down the cord without isolating the cells, and some release the cells before freezing. At Healthcord, we store cells from the entire cord- not just a portion of it, and release these cells prior to cryopreservation. We consider this to be the best approach at the present time.

Clients considering UCT storage should consider it an add-on item to cord blood banking due to its experimental nature. It should be noted that UCT storage is experimental no matter which facility provides the service, although some companies will represent it as being more than what it is. We advise our clients to be fully aware of the experimental nature of the service as described above prior to proceeding. Find out more »

* Limited time offer. Although some cord blood banks market cord tissue banking as a clinical level service, unlike cord blood, there are few or no clinically approved preparations and uses for cord tissue. Healthcord therefore classifies cord tissue banking as experimental. Healthcord is offering clients who wish to proceed with this experimental service a 50% discount on any cord tissue service until federal regulations or clinical services render this service to be clinically mature as determined by Healthcord. Above notes regarding Future Storage Rates and 18 Year Plans for cord blood banking also apply.
